Quick start guide: Creating incoming referrals

Quick start: This topic provides a high-level overview of the steps required to quickly complete the task. For detailed instructions, refer to the comprehensive help topic Creating incoming referrals from the inbox.

  1. From the main menu, click Inbox.

  2. Click the incoming fax, scanned document, or lab report.

  3. At the bottom of the window, click Referral.

  4. If the document is not assigned to a patient, search for and assign the referral to an existing patient, or if the patient doesn't exist, click the person icon to add a new patient.

    📌 Note: The patient is only added to the CHR after they are registered via the referral action. This is helpful if you reject the referral.

  5. The New Referral - Incoming window opens to fill in the required fields:

    1. Reason for Referral.

    2. Date Added - Defaults to today's date.

    3. Ordering Provider - Select who ordered the referral.

    4. Service Provider - Select who the patient will see.

    5. Patient Information - Select the patient.

    6. Attachments - Click Add Attachment and choose the document that contains the referral information.

    7. Status - Choose the appropriate status.

    8. Priority - Choose the appropriate priority.

    9. Required Actions - Depending on the status you chose.

    10. Comments - Type additional comments and click Leave Comment.

  6. Click Save & close.
