Manually create new incoming referrals from a scanned document you received

If you do not have fax integration and you receive an incoming referral as a paper letter that you scan and add to your TELUS Collaborative Health Record (CHR), you can manually create a new incoming referral from the Referrals dashboard.

You can also create a referral from a received fax or document in your inbox (refer to Creating incoming referrals from the inbox).

Steps

1. From the main menu, click Referrals.

2. In the top-right corner, click New Referral and select Incoming as the type of referral.

📌 Note: To create new outgoing and internal referrals, start from an encounter.

The New Referral - Incoming window opens.

3. Fill in the fields of the referral, using the following table as reference.

Field

Description

Reason for Referral

Type a reason or select from the list of presenting issues (if configured).

Date Added

Defaults to today's date; change it if required.

Ordering Provider

Select who ordered the referral. Search for the provider from your Contacts or click +New provider to add a new provider.

To change the provider, click the X to the right of their name and search for or add a different one.

Service Provider

Select who the patient will see.

To change the service provider, click the name and select a new one from the list.

Patient Information

Select the patient.

Attachments

Click Add Attachment and choose the document that contains the referral information. You can choose a file on your computer or a document from the patient chart.

Status

Choose the appropriate status.

Priority

Choose the appropriate priority.

Required Actions

Depending on the status you chose, complete any required actions listed in this section.

Comments

If required, type additional comments and click Leave Comment.

4. Click Save & close.

Your referral is now created.
