Editing medications
Updated over a week ago

You can change dosage information and additional instructions on a signed prescription. This is useful to, for example, record changes in medication dosages without creating a new prescription.

You can edit a medication from the patient's medications list (Start/Open > Medications) or while adding a prescription in an encounter.

Steps

1. To edit a medication from the Medications list, select the medication and then click the start date.

2. To edit a medication from an encounter:

a) Add a new prescription from this patient's medications (click +Add Prescription > this patient's medications or click Add from Patient's Existing Medications).

b) Click the More (down arrow) icon beside the medication to show the medication details, and then click the medication details.

3. In the Modify Medication window, make the necessary changes to the dosage information and additional instructions.

📌Note: To ensure data integrity, you can only change the medication name if it was prescribed without a Drug Identification Number (DIN).

📌Note: In the Modify Medication window you can view every field you initially completed, including the information saved in the Extra tab. Click the View original details link to see the read-only information of that medication entry.

4. Select a Reason for Modification from the list, such as change in dosage or patient condition changed.

5. The Date of Modification defaults to today's date. Adjust it, if necessary.

6. Record any Modification Comments (Internal Only).

7. Click Save.

8. The change to the medication is recorded in the patient's Medications list. If you edited the medication from an encounter, the modified medication also shows in the Assessment and Plan section of the encounter.
