ODB and SADIE

If your patient has an Ontario health card number, you can quickly access the Ontario Drug Benefits (ODB) and Special Authorization Digital Information Exchange (SADIE) websites by clicking the appropriate hyperlink in the CHR. The ODB and SADIE websites will open in a separate browser window.

You can access the ODB and SADIE links from:

  • Start/Open > Prescriptions

  • Start/Open > Medications

  • The Prescriptions section of an encounter

  • The "prescription pad" or Prescription Dialog

  • The prescription writer window.

Steps

  1. Locate the ODB and SADIE links.

📌 Note: These links only appear for patients with an OHIP health card number in their demographics.

2. To check medication coverage:

a. Click the ODB link to open in a new browser window.

b. In Check medication coverage, type a medication name, ingredient or DIN and click the magnifying glass to search.

c. Review the medication coverage information.

d. Return to the CHR to complete your prescription.

3. To submit an exceptional access request:

a. Click the SADIE link to open SADIE in a new browser window.

b. Complete your exceptional access request.

c. Return to the CHR to complete your prescription.

📌 Note: These links open external websites. Information is not automatically shared between the CHR and these sites.
