Setting which provider(s) patients can book certain appointment types with when self-booking appointments
Updated over a year ago

When patients self-book appointments, you can set which providers they can book with based on the appointment type they select. You can allow patients to book only with their primary provider, or allow patients to book with any available provider offering the selected appointment type.

When a patient selects an appointment type that can be booked with any provider, the self-booking site can either:

  • Display all available appointment slots for all providers at once (not giving the patient the option to choose a provider).

  • Or require the patient to choose the provider first, and then display available appointment slots only for the selected provider.
💡 Tip: When this option is selected, you can set what alternate provider(s) patients can book with in the event that their primary provider isn't available.

💡 Tip: You can choose how providers display on your clinic's CHR eBooking site: Name only, avatar (picture) only or name with avatar. See Setting provider display options for your eBooking site.

Steps

1. From the main menu, click Settings > Scheduling and edit or add the appointment type. See Creating and modifying appointment types.

2. In the Edit Appointment Type or New Appointment Type window, under The Appointment can be booked with, select one of the following options:

  • Any practitioner offering the appointment: Patients are presented appointment times for all providers offering the appointment type (without first having to choose a specific provider to book with).

  • The patient's practitioner of choice: Patients are required to select a provider to book with. They're then presented with available appointment times for the provider they select.

  • The patients primary practitioner or alternate practitioners: Patients are presented with available appointment times with their primary provider.
💡 Tip: If you want to allow patients to book this appointment type with alternative provider(s) (in the case that their primary provider isn't available), click no alternate practitioners selected, and then select the alternative provider(s).

3. At the bottom of the window, click Submit.

4. Refresh your browser for the changes to take effect.
