In Ontario, the TELUS Collaborative Health Record (CHR) integrates with Medical Laboratories of Windsor (MLW). MLW is a laboratory testing facility that offers diagnostic tests.

With this integration, MLW lab reports are securely transmitted to your CHR inbox. Through our encrypted messaging tool, you can then share the electronic lab reports with other CHR users at your clinic and your patient. For more information, refer to Viewing electronic lab reports.

⚠️ Important:

Steps

If providers at your clinic want to receive labs from MLW electronically within the CHR, you must register providers with MLW before we can complete the lab integration.

1. Complete the Medical Laboratories of Windsor EMR Request form for each provider.

📌Notes:

  • The EMR product is Collaborative Health Record (CHR) and the EMR vendor is TELUS Health.

  • To find the EMR version, at the top of the main menu in the CHR, click your avatar image. The version appears in the bottom right corner.

  • If you are still in the implementation phase, the contact person at TELUS Health should include your project manager’s contact details. Otherwise, the Name is TELUS Health, the Phone Number is 1 888-369-3643, and the Email Address is chrsupport@telus.com.

2. Send or Fax the completed form to MLW.

3. Once MLW has processed the request, they send credentials and password to the person who submitted the request.

4. Contact your CHR project manager or contact the TELUS Health Support team and ask them to integrate MLW with your CHR account with the following information:

  • The credentials you received from MLW.

  • Default Recipient inbox, i.e. the inbox that lab results should be sent to if unmatched to a provider.

  • How the labs should be distributed, by one of the following options:

    • Current Provider: Labs are directed to the inbox of the account you are configuring. You will have one general inbox for all labs received.

    • Ordering Providers: Labs are directed to the inbox of the ordering physician. If no match is found, it will act the same as the Current Provider option.

    • Spread by Receivable Providers: Labs are directed to the inbox of the ordering physician and anyone CC'd on the report or listed under Report to on the lab requisition. If no match is found, it will act the same as the Current Provider option.

    • Single Inbox: Labs are directed to the inbox of the account selected in Default Recipient above. You will have one general inbox for all labs received.

5. TELUS Health integrates MLW with your CHR account and notifies you when it is complete and when you can expect to receive electronic results in your inbox.

If you encounter any errors or if lab reports do not download, contact our TELUS CHR Support team.

📌Note:

To assist with the validation process and to ensure that electronically transmitted lab reports are identical in form and content to the traditional hard copy reports, for one month MLW continues to send paper copies via fax at the same time as you receive electronic lab reports.

A representative from MLW will work with you on any discrepancies or missing information.

After a one-month overlap period and faxing a few reports to MLW for comparison, providers must send the FINAL - Electronic Medical Records (“EMR”) Lab Results Physician Acceptance and Agreement form to MLW. Once the form is sent, MLW will cease delivering duplicate hard copy reports.
