⚠️ Important: This is currently a beta feature, available to a few CHR beta users in order to test and provide feedback. It will be available to more users once the beta period is complete.
If you're in Ontario and use CHR's agentic AI feature, the billing agent automatically analyzes your encounter notes and recommends OHIP-compliant billing codes to maximize revenue. The agent identifies optimization opportunities by suggesting, replacing, or removing codes based on encounter context. The agent uses the OHIP Schedule of Benefits and fees as its knowledge base to ensure all recommendations comply with current OHIP guidelines.
The agent evaluates:
Diagnosis codes
Service date and duration
Patient demographics (age and sex)
Billing history (past 24 months) to avoid maxed-out or duplicate codes
Your capitation model (FHO, FHO+, FHG, FHN, CCM or FFS) and specialist code, and the patient's roster status
📌 Note: To use the billing agent, ensure your capitation model and specialty code are set in your billing settings. For more information, refer to Updating your billing settings.
Steps
Start or access an encounter from your schedule, from the Visits dashboard, or from the patient's chart. Refer to Starting an encounter.
Begin documenting your notes in the History, Examination, Assessment and Plan (including Diagnostic Code) sections, or manually add an item to the Billing Items section.
📌 Note: If the Assessment and Plan section includes diagnostic codes your encounter settings determine whether the system automatically adds them to the billing items. For more information, refer to Customizing your encounter settings.
The agent analyzes in real-time as you move between encounter fields and generates AI suggestion badges that appear below the Billing Items section. Hover over a suggestion badge to view more details. From here, you can accept or dismiss the agent's suggestions individually or all at once.
When you click a suggestion badge, the agent displays optimization opportunities by suggesting new codes, removing unsupported ones, or replacing codes with more appropriate options.
The Insured billing window displays suggestions marked with a purple AI icon. Review and edit the pre-filled information.
Review the diagnosis code from your encounter, modify units and timestamps as needed, and accept or dismiss the agent's suggestions individually or all at once.
Click Save. The system marks the suggestion as accepted with a green checkmark and adds it to the Billing Items section of the encounter.
