You can edit a letter that was saved. For example, you can start a letter (see Creating letters from encounters and Creating letters from patient charts) and finish it later. Or, a provider may create and save a letter and their staff selects the recipient and sends it later.
📌 Note: If the setting to prevent edits to signed letters is enabled, you cannot edit the letter unless you unlock it. For more information, refer to Preventing edits to signed letters.
Steps
1. Open the letter to edit using one of these methods:
From the patient chart, click Start/Open > Letters and then click the letter to edit from the list of existing patient letters.
From the patient chart dashboard's Quick Menu, click Letters (see Navigating the patient dashboard) and then click the letter to edit from the list of existing patient letters.
From a message, click the attached letter.
The Edit Letter window opens.
2. Make the required modifications (such as choosing a recipient, deleting some encounter notes, or modifying patient data) and then click Save.
4. Send the letter using the buttons at the bottom of the letter, as described in Sending letters.
