The Healthcare Directory is a cloud-based address book of pan-Canadian healthcare contacts. The directory contains physicians and facilities such as pharmacies, labs, and diagnostic imaging facilities. The list of physicians is updated quarterly, and pharmacies, labs, and diagnostic imaging facilities are updated annually.
π Note: There is a small monthly fee per provider for the Healthcare Directory. Contact the TELUS Health Support team for more information (refer to Contact us).
In most places where you search for a contact in the CHR, results from the Healthcare Directory are displayed in addition to your local contacts. You can search the Healthcare Directory when you are:
Faxing a prescription
Faxing a form
Selecting the recipient of a letter
Selecting the service provider for an outgoing referral
Sending a referral
Adding a patient's preferred pharmacy
Adding a patient's family doctor and referring practitioner
From the search results, you can select a contact from the Healthcare Directory without adding the contact to your local Contacts list.
π Notes:
The patient must have a valid postal code recorded in patient demographics. The CHR shows results closest to the patient's address, at the top of the list of results.
For every province except British Columbia, the Healthcare Directory does not contain a provider's Billing Code, as this is considered private information. If you are looking up a provider for billing purposes, you must manually add their billing number. This adds the contact to your local Contacts list.
π‘ Tip: If you send a patient a Qnaire that includes questions to identify their preferred pharmacy, referring practitioner, or family doctor, the patient can search from the Healthcare Directory.
Steps
1. In any of the areas where you can search the Healthcare Directory, select the appropriate type of search from the list (e.g. Facility, Contact Name, Full Search) and then begin typing part of the name of the contact or facility.
π‘ Tip: Use Full Search to search for a combination of criteria, such as specialty and city. For example, "cardiology calgary".
π Note: You cannot search the Healthcare Directory by Billing Code. If you search for a provider by Billing Code, only matches from your local CHR Contacts list will be displayed.
2. The CHR automatically searches your local facilities list, as well as the Healthcare Directory, and a list of matching contacts or facilities appears. Matches from your local Contacts list appear before Healthcare Directory contacts. Contacts that were found in the Healthcare Directory display with a cloud icon to the left of the name.
π‘ Tip: Healthcare Directory contacts are displayed in order of proximity to the patient or your current location (depending on where you started the search from).
π Notes:
When you send a fax and search for a contact from the Healthcare Directory, only contacts with a fax number are displayed.
The CHR displays a maximum of 100 matching results. If there are more than 100 that match your search criteria, text appears at the top of the results and indicates that not all results are displayed. Refine your search to return fewer results.
3. Select the Healthcare Directory contact or facility from the list of matches.
4. If you are adding a patient's preferred pharmacy, referring practitioner, or family doctor, a Healthcare Directory label appears in the dashboard widget to indicate the contact is from the Healthcare Directory and not in your local Contacts list. Click the contact or facility to view the details in the Contacts window.
π‘ Tip: If the patient reported the information via a Qnaire, a Patient Reported label also appears.
When you are viewing the details of the contact or facility in the Contacts window, a Healthcare Directory label appears to indicate the contact and/or facility is from the Healthcare Directory and not in your local Contacts list.
π Note: If you make any changes to the contact or facility, such as adding a fax number or billing number, you are prompted to add the contact to your local Contacts list.
