Integrating British Columbia's Northern Health Authority (NHA) labs with your CHR account
Updated over a year ago

Inpatient and outpatient imaging and lab results are generated at Northern Health testing facilities.

The Clinical Information Exchange (CIX) service securely exchanges patient information between Northern Health testing facilities and a clinic. You must register providers with the CIX service before your CHR account can be integrated with NHA labs.

When the NHA lab is integrated with your CHR account, lab and imaging results are securely transmitted to your CHR inbox. You can then share the electronic results with other CHR users at your clinic and with your patient through our encrypted messaging tool. For more information, refer to Viewing electronic lab reports.

⚠️ Important:

  • Lab results are routed based on the provider’s billing number. Ensure that all billing numbers are entered accurately in the providers’ CHR profiles. For more information, see Updating your user profile information.

  • The CHR pulls lab results from the lab distributor every 30 minutes.

Steps

1. Complete and submit the CIX Clinic/Provider Activation Form.

📌Note: Under EMR Vendor Information, if you are still in the implementation phase, include your project manager’s contact details. Otherwise, the Name is TELUS Health, Contact is 1 888-369-3643, and Contact email is chrsupport@telus.com.

2. Once NHA labs have processed the request, they send credentials to the person who submitted the request.

3. Contact your CHR project manager or contact the TELUS Health Support team and ask them to integrate BC's Northern Health Authority (NHA) labs with your CHR account. Provide them with the following information:

  • The credentials your received from BC's Northern Health Authority (NHA) labs.

  • Default recipient inbox, i.e. the inbox that lab results should be sent to if unmatched to a provider.

  • How the labs should be distributed, by one of the following options:

    - Current Provider: Labs are directed to the inbox of the account you are configuring. You will have one general inbox for all labs received
    or,
    - Ordering Providers: Labs are directed to the inbox of the ordering physician. If no match is found, it will act the same as the Current Provider option,
    or,
    - Spread by Receivable Providers: Labs are directed to the inbox of the ordering physician and anyone CC'd on the report or listed under Report to on the lab requisition. If no match is found, it will act the same as the Current Provider option,
    or,
    - Single Inbox: Labs are directed to the inbox of the account selected in Default Recipient above. You will have one general inbox for all labs received.

4. TELUS Health integrates BC's Northern Health Authority (NHA) lab with your CHR account and advises when it is complete and when you can expect to receive electronic results in your inbox.

If you encounter any errors or if lab reports do not download, contact our TELUS CHR Support team.

📌 Note: If a new provider joins your clinic, contact BC’s NHA lab directly.
