Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board creates the remittance file in response to WCB claims submissions. Remittance files indicate which bills were paid, which were denied, how much was paid toward each, and explanatory codes or error codes.
The remittance file is available every Tuesday. If Monday is a holiday, the file is available on Wednesday.
The remittance files are downloaded from the myWCB portal, saved on your workstation, and then uploaded into the Collaborative Health Record (CHR) for processing.
📌Note: We recommend creating a remittance file one week at a time.
Steps to download remittance files from the WCB portal
Log in to the myWCB portal.
⚠️Important: You must use the latest version of Safari or Mozilla Firefox as your web browser to download the XML file from the myWCB website. Using any other browser (such as Chrome and Microsoft Edge) will lead to errors.
Hover over My Reports and click View Payment Remittance Reports.
In the Payment Remittance window, click Report Format. Select XML from the list.
Under Reporting Period criteria, in the Search All field, select:
Duration = 1 week
Start week = select the report week
💡Tip: The maximum file size for an individual file upload to the CHR is 5MB. Selecting the duration of 1 week for the reporting period keeps the file size under the 5MB limit.
Click Generate Report. The report is generated and displayed in a new pop-up window for printing or saving.
📌Note: Right-click the generated report window and select Save as to save the XML file.
Save the file on your workstation.
💡Tip: Name the remittance file for the week it relates to.
Steps to process remittance files in the CHR
⚠️Important: The CHR requires you to upload the batch return file before uploading remittance files. Refer to Processing Workers’ Compensation Board batch return files (Alberta) for more information.
Select Billing from the main menu. The Billing Dashboard opens.
At the top-left corner, click AB WCB to open the WCB Processing window. Select the File Upload tab.
Click Upload Remittance File.
Navigate to the remittance file saved on your workstation. Double-click the file to upload it. The file processes.
Once the remittance file is processed, refresh the screen to confirm the file is processed without errors.
If there are errors within the file, or the file is not in the correct format, in the File Upload tab, the status displays Failed.
💡 Tip: Under Errors, hover over the information icon for further details of the error.
📌Note: The contents of the file do not import into the CHR.
To view the history of the batch return files and remittance files uploaded to the CHR for all users, set the service date range you want to view bills for (for example, the date 3 months before today - today's date) and select a Status from the list.
To archive a batch return file or remittance file, click Archive. To show or hide archived files, slide the toggle on or off.
⚠️ Important: You can not restore archived files.
