Billing for hospital or long term care visits (New Brunswick)
Updated over a week ago

⚠️ Important: This is currently a beta feature. It will be available once the beta period is complete.

If you see patients in hospitals or long term care facilities, you can bill for these services from the CHR.

Steps

  1. Create a provincial bill from the patient's chart.

📌 Notes:

  • Because the bill is not linked to an appointment, the service date defaults to today's date. To specify the date, in the Edit NB Billing Item window, click the date under Service Date and select the new date in the calendar.

  • If you are not a provider, you must select the Billing Practitioner.
💡 Tip: If the Remember last billing practitioner setting is enabled, the field defaults to the last provider for whom you billed. For more information, see Customising your insured payment settings.

2. Add the billing codes by completing the applicable fields in the Edit NB Billing Item window that appears. Refer to Adding and modifying billing items (service codes) to your provincial bills for more information.

⚠️ Important: Ensure the following is selected when creating a billing item:

  • If you are entering more than one hospital or long term care visit, increase the Count.

  • Enter the date and time you saw your patient under Service Date, Start Time, End Date and End Time.
📌 Note: If you saw your patient more than once, service date is the first day you started seeing your patient.

  • Ensure the Service Location and Medical site fields are completed. To modify, click the field and select the correct one from the list.

  • Select Show advanced fields and enter the Admission Date and Discharged Date.

  • Optionally, in the Comments field add a message for New Brunswick Medicare. Comments can help reduce the number of refusals as these are sent to the ministry as part of your bill.

3. Click Save.
