Billing the province (MSP) for incarcerated patients (British Columbia)
Updated this week

You can bill for incarcerated patients in British Columbia using their Correctional Services ID (CS ID) provided by the prison, instead of the standard Provincial Health Number (PHN).

CS IDs are typically shorter than standard MSP IDs. To use the CS ID for billing, prefix it with zeros (0) to reach the standard MSP ID length of 10 digits. (e.g. If the CS ID is "123456", you would enter it as "0000123456").

Steps

  1. Search for the patient in the CHR. If the patient does not exist, you can add the patient.

  2. Under Identifications, update the identification type and add the patient’s CS ID.
