Migrating to user license management in the CHR

Updated this week

📌 Note: This new license management system only applies to clinics with standard TELUS Health CHR contracts; custom or Input Health contracts are excluded.

New dedicated user license field

We are introducing a dedicated license field in the CHR to ensure accurate user classification and to give you more control over your CHR licenses. This dedicated field will ensure each user is properly classified in roles such as clinical trainee, locum, etc. to streamline license management and align licenses with the respective product features.

Automatic mapping for existing users

Starting December 3, 2025, we will populate this new license type classification field for existing users. While TELUS Health will automatically assign the appropriate license to users that can be mapped with high confidence, clinics are responsible for ensuring that all users are assigned to the correct license. Users that cannot be matched to a license will need to be updated manually.

Actions required for user administrators

  • If you are a user with permission to edit other users, you must review and assign licenses to your team members between December 3, 2025, and January 31, 2026. Upon logging into your CHR account during this period, you are prompted to select the appropriate license for any unmapped users.

  • Starting December 3, 2025, for any new user account you create, you are required to select a license. Refer to Adding user accounts (with license management enabled) for more information.

  • If you want to allow users to upgrade their own license as needed, assign them the Upgrade Type Classification permission. Refer to Upgrading your user type classification.

  • Effective February 1, 2026, your billing will reflect the licenses selected for your users, and users that do not have a license selected will automatically be assigned the highest tier license for their user type (for example, a practitioner will be assigned the CHR Plus license). Users will remain at that tier until the license is manually modified. Any modification will take effect on the first of the following month.

💡 Tip: We strongly encourage all clinics to proactively review the user licenses before January 31, 2026, to minimize impact on billing.

Updating unmapped users

If you have the permission to Edit Other Users in the CHR, and your clinic has users whose license type and classification could not be mapped based on the available information, you see a banner at the top of the CHR prompting you to update their profile.

📌Note: You can temporarily dismiss this banner by clicking the x on the far right. The banner will reappear every time you log into the CHR until all users are updated.

Steps

1. In the banner that appears at the top of the CHR, click Update Profiles. The list of users without a type classification appears.

2. Click a user in the list.

3. Select values to complete the user’s profile.

💡Tip: Hover over the information icon for a description of each Type Classification. For more information, refer to Adding user accounts (with license management enabled).

4. Click Submit to save your changes and go back to the list of users, or click the double-arrow icon to submit and go to the next user in the list.

5. Repeat these steps until you have gone through the entire list of users.
