British Columbia, Ontario and New Brunswick: Integrating Excelleris (Lifelabs) with your CHR account
British Columbia, Ontario and New Brunswick: Integrating Excelleris (Lifelabs) with your CHR account
Updated over a week ago

⚠️ Important: In New Brunswick, this is currently a beta feature. It will be available once the beta period is complete.

In British Columbia, Ontario and New Brunswick, the TELUS Collaborative Health Record (CHR) integrates with Excelleris (LifeLabs). Excelleris is a health information exchange provider that delivers lab results from Lifelabs to the CHR.

With this integration, Excelleris lab results are securely transmitted to your CHR inbox. You can then share the electronic lab results with other CHR users at your clinic and with your patient through our encrypted messaging tool. For more information, see Viewing electronic lab reports.

⚠️ Important:

  • In Ontario and British Columbia, labs are routed based on the provider's billing number. In New Brunswick, labs are routed based on the provider’s licence number. Please ensure that all billing and licence numbers are entered accurately in the provider’s profile. For more information, refer to Updating your user profile information.

  • The CHR pulls lab results from the lab distributor every 15 minutes.

Requesting an integration from Excelleris

To integrate a provider with Excelleris, you must first submit the HL7 Health Care Provider Setup Form to Excelleris. The CHR team can do this on your behalf. Contact the TELUS Health support team through the support chat. Please have the below information ready:

  • Clinic name.

  • Clinic address.

  • Primary contact name, phone, and email (the person who should be contacted if there is an issue with the setup).

  • The name and billing numbers (licence numbers in New Brunswick) of all of the doctors who need to be added.

  • Do any of the physicians need to receive the results from the 2 weeks prior to integration? This will push the labs for the past two weeks for this physician to the CHR.

⚠️ Important: This request can take up to four weeks to process.

📌 Note: To add a new provider or remove a provider from an existing Excelleris account, email clientservices@excelleris.com with the name and billing number (licence number in New Brunswick) of the provider. If you have the case number for the original integration request, you can also include it.

Excelleris creates the provider's setup on their end. Once completed, Excelleris supplies the provider's certificate and login information to whoever submitted the request (CHR support or yourself). The CHR support team will contact you via the support chat once they have this information and will provide the certificate password.

Each clinic is assigned an Excelleris User ID and password. Providers working in that location will be associated with that Excelleris User ID.

  • If you are configuring a new integration, you must then add this information to your CHR (site level).

  • If you are adding a new provider to an existing setup, you do not need to do this step as they will share your existing configuration.

Recipients Policy

Select how the labs should be distributed, by one of the following options:

  • Current Provider: Labs are directed to the inbox of the user account used during the lab configuration setup. This inbox receives all of the lab results, acting as a general inbox, rather than sending results directly to the ordering practitioners’ individual inboxes.

  • Ordering Providers: Labs are directed to the inbox of the ordering physician. If no match is found, it will act the same as the Current Provider option.

  • Spread by Receivable Providers: Labs are directed to the inbox of the ordering physician and anyone CC'd on the report or listed under Report to on the lab requisition. If no match is found, it will act the same as the Current Provider option.

  • Single Inbox: Labs are directed to the inbox of the account selected in Default Recipient above. You will have one general inbox for all labs received.

5. Beside Connection Details, click Expand.

6. Under Select Your Certificate, click the paperclip icon to upload the certificate file. This is the only time you will require the file. Feel free to delete it from your device after you complete these steps.

💡 Tip: To ensure that you see the certificate you downloaded, select All Files (*.*) at the bottom-right corner of the file explorer.

7. Enter the Certificate Password.

8. Click Save.

9. Refresh your browser. You are now integrated with Excelleris.
