Recording a pregnancy result
Updated over 3 months ago

You can use the Obstetrical Care section of the Health Profile to record the outcome of a patient's pregnancy. You can record delivery and infant details, for example, delivery type or final gestational age.

You record the pregnancy result in the same record as the patient's prenatal details. This allows you to easily review all the details for a pregnancy in one place.

⚠️ Important:

  • This information is for record-keeping purposes only; it does not currently pull into other areas of the CHR (for example, Encounters or Forms).

  • This prenatal solution does not apply to Alberta.

Steps

1. In the Summary view of the the patient's chart, expand the Obstetrical Care section. Or in the Quick Menu or the Start/Open menu, choose Health Profile and then expand the Obstetrical Care section.

Pregnancies are organized into Current pregnancy and Past pregnancies. Click a pregnancy to record a pregnancy result.

3. In the obstetrical care record window, click the Pregnancy result tab.

4. The pregnancy status defaults to Current, meaning the pregnancy is active. When the pregnancy is completed, select Past. This moves the pregnancy to the Past pregnancies section of the Obstetrical Care section.

5. The obstetrical care record window is divided into two sections, Delivery and Infants, allowing you to easily organize the pregnancy details. Complete the details of the result of the pregnancy by filling out the appropriate fields. For example, final gestational age, complications, and the health of the baby.

📌 Notes:

  • When you add the End Date, the Final GA is automatically calculated. Once saved, in the Current Pregnancy tab, the GA fields are cleared.

  • To clear the fields under the Infants section, click the trash can icon on the top right of the specific infant subsection.

6. For a multiple birth pregnancy, click +New infant.

7. Click Save.

📌 Note: To delete a record, click the trash can icon and, in the Delete permanently window, select a Reason for deletion from the list and click Delete. A notice with the date the record was deleted appears in the bottom left of the Obstetrical Care section. To see what was deleted, click Open activity log, select the activity log entry and click Open history.
