If you are using CHR Connect and have a Stripe integration, you can require patients to pay a fee online before booking an appointment via the CHR Connect app. Setting up pre-payments helps reduce no shows and saves administrative time.

⚠️ Important: Patients cannot cancel or reschedule an appointment once it is paid for, even if your scheduling settings are set to allow changes and cancellations.

📌 Notes:

  • Payments are processed via a Stripe integration. For more information, refer to Configuring Stripe in the CHR.

  • You cannot configure pre-payments for group appointments.

To configure pre-payments you must first create a non-insurable service or product. For more information, refer to Adding private billing products and services. You then assign the product to an appointment type.

Steps

  1. From the main menu, click Settings > Scheduling > Appointment Type.

  2. Click the appointment type you would like to configure the pre-payment for.

  3. In the Appointment Type window, scroll down to the Online Booking Pre-Payment section and click Enable.

  4. From the Product list, choose the product that you want to charge for this appointment type.

  5. Click Submit.

When patients book this appointment type, the associated fee appears, and they must pay it before they can book the appointment.

💡 Tip: You can verify payment of an appointment fee by checking the Private Billing section of the patient’s chart. Click the bill to open it and then click the Billing Items tab. The product name, along with the service date for the booked appointment, shows for reference.
