What's new in the CHR
Improvements
Redesigned patient information in the appointment booking window
📌Note: TELUS Health must manually enable this feature following the release. It could take up to 24 hours before you see the functionality.
As part of our ongoing usability and design improvements, the patient section of the appointment booking window uses clearer labels and button styles.
When you book an appointment, you now click Select a patient to search for a patient.
To change the patient, click the pencil icon beside the name.
The patient’s name shows in your preferred format. If there is a referring practitioner, or the patient is assigned to a panel (Alberta), these are displayed below the name.
For more patient information, such as their primary practitioner, cell phone number, and email address, hover over the patient’s name to see a demographics snapshot.
Instead of clicking Open Chart to open the patient’s chart, you now click the patient’s name either in the appointment window or in the demographics snapshot.
The Quick View button to update patient demographics is replaced with an Update patient info button.
CHR Connect: Updated default appointment notifications
If your clinic has CHR Connect enabled, the default email templates for Appointment Confirmation and Appointment Booked notifications now have clearer messaging about what is expected of the patient. When pre-visit Qnaires are assigned, reference to the Qnaire button is now included in both notification types.
For information on customizing the default text, refer to Customizing notification templates.
Reviewing and syncing Healthcare Directory updates to your CHR contacts
If you added Healthcare Directory contacts to your CHR Contacts, you can now review and selectively apply Healthcare Directory updates.
When searching for contacts, a Review button appears for providers or facilities with updates.
Click Review to view the differences between your CHR contact’s details and Healthcare Directory’s details and update your contacts accordingly.
For more information, refer to Updating your contacts from the Healthcare Directory.
Alberta and British Columbia: Auto-categorization of health reports
📌Note: TELUS Health must manually enable this feature following the release. It could take up to 24 hours before you see the functionality.
When you receive a patient document, the CHR now automatically categorizes reports from various sources in British Columbia and Alberta into default categories. This improves file organization and eliminates manual tag reassignment.
Previously, all incoming reports defaulted to the Lab tab, often requiring staff to manually remove the Lab tag and apply the correct file tag. Now, lab results, diagnostic imaging, and other medical reports are automatically categorized with the default file tags: Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, and Reports. These appear as tabs in the patient chart's Patient Files section. Documents that cannot be categorized as lab results or diagnostic imaging are filed under the Reports tab.
📌Note: If you have clinic-specific file tags configured in your system, they will not be replaced and you may see duplicate or similar file tags.
British Columbia: Deleting WorkSafeBC forms created in error
You can now delete WorkSafeBC (WSBC) forms that are in Draft - validation off status directly from an encounter, the Visits dashboard, or the Insured Billing section.
To delete a saved form, select the form billing item and click the trash can icon to remove the form and its associated fee item.
Fixes
Below is a list of bugs we have identified and fixed in this release. For more information, contact our TELUS Health support team.
In Settings > Billing, you can no longer delete a Payment Issuer that has associated insured payments. This allows you to view your historical bills for that payment issuer.
In the Patient Outbox, in the Outgoing Item column, the spelling of Recurring Qnaire is now correct.
When a patient completes a Qnaire where the Update Patient Data setting is set to clear the patient chart data when the patient leaves a question blank, the patient data related to the question is cleared. You are prompted with an Updated Information Requests window to confirm clearing of existing data in the patient chart.
Injection units are now correctly displayed in the Encounters section of the patient chart summary view. They now match the units recorded instead of displaying mL.
The system now saves pasted images in signed encounters without requiring additional text.
When exporting encounters, the appropriately sorted list now displays creation dates instead of showing updated or signed dates.
Admin notes marked as important no longer appear past their end date when creating an appointment.
When editing a patient document and selecting a Practitioner as the Source Author, the list of providers now loads faster, and you can scroll through the list of all providers.
If you do not have access to a patient chart, you cannot book a group appointment for that patient.
When adding to or removing providers from user groups, after a refresh, all the users in that group now appear in the Schedules when you filter by that user group.
When creating outgoing referrals, when you start typing a Reason for referral, the Chrome auto-complete works again, and you can select from the list of presenting issues.
When adding or updating an identification in patient demographics, with the date range validation for Plan Start Date and Plan End Date, there is now a descriptive error message in the Create Identification or Update Identification window.
In Settings > Patient File, when you create file tags in either English or French with your preferred language in either English or French, they are now validated to prevent duplicates in English and French.
In Settings > Injections, the archive and restore icons are consistent with other sections of the CHR.
When users with the Staff Patient Settings permission and not the Patients permission access a patient’s chart, only a single access notification appears.
When patients book appointments online, they receive all appointment confirmation emails and SMS notifications regardless of which web browser or device they use.
CHR Connect: For clinics with the pro-level subscription, when you enable Patient-Initiated Messages you can now select any user with an inbox.
Manitoba: You can now register and track out-of-province patients through the Home Clinic Enrolment Service.
📌 Note: New CHR versions are released on a regular bi-weekly schedule. However, there are times where a fix is released prior to the next scheduled release. These off-schedule release fixes are documented in the separate off-schedule release notes.
