There are several ways to share faxes, labs, documents and files, both internally and externally. You can easily share an inbox item with colleagues for collaboration and task delegation. Additionally, you can securely send faxes or patient portal or CHR Connect messages containing patient information and email non-confidential items outside of the CHR.
Once documents and lab results are attached to a patient's chart, you can also share them from the Patient Files or Lab Results sections.
Steps:
Open the inbox item from the Inbox, or the patient chart Patient Files or Lab Results section.
Click Share.
Using the tables below for reference, choose how you would like to share the inbox item.
Internal
💡 Tip: Before sharing the item internally, you can mark it as urgent. For more information, refer to Marking messages and inbox items as urgent.
Action | Description |
New Message | If you need to include additional notes or information, you can share the item as a new message.
The inbox item is automatically attached to the new message, and the inbox item's name is used as the Title.

Forward | If you do not need to include additional information, you can quickly forward the inbox item to a different CHR user or user group’s inboxes.
Search for and select the CHR users in the recipient field, and click Forward. |
External
Action | Description |
Fax | You can easily fax the inbox item to other healthcare providers, care teams, or other recipients such as lawyers and insurance companies.
📌 Note: To fax a lab result, click PDF instead.
Search for and select the facility or contact in the recipient field, and click Send.
📌 Note: You can manually type the fax number in the field. However, it is best practice to record commonly used fax numbers in your contacts. |
To Patient | You can send a secure patient portal or CHR Connect message to patients.
You can only send a message to the patient that the inbox item is matched to.
The inbox item is automatically attached to the message, and the inbox item's name is used as the Title.

Email (not secure) | If the inbox item does not contain Personal Health Information (PHI), you can send it via email.
📌 Note: You cannot email lab results.
The email is sent from NoReply@inputhealth.com and you can choose if you want to allow replies to your message.The responses are received to your selected email address, and not your CHR inbox.
Search for and select the facility or contact in the recipient field and click Send.
