What’s new in the CHR

Improvements

Editing patient documents from an encounter

When you attach a document to an encounter, and you open it, you can now edit the document. For example, adding annotations or splitting the document.

All versions of the patient document are saved in the encounter with the latest version listed at the top.

If you open an older version, a red warning banner at the top of the document indicates a newer version is available. To view that newer version, click a newer revision.

📌Note: You cannot edit a patient document that is attached to a signed encounter. A validation message prevents you from doing so.

Using annotation tools on patient documents

📌Note: TELUS Health must manually enable this feature following the release. It could take up to 24 hours before you see the functionality.

When adding Text, Arrow and Rectangle annotations to patient documents, you only need to select the annotation tool once to use it consecutively. The tool remains selected until you choose another tool.

This streamlines the annotation process, reducing the number of clicks when adding multiple annotations to a document.

Tracking ownership for access restrictions

To enhance accountability and help with access restriction management, when you restrict access to a chart or an encounter, you are now identified as the owner. This is indicated by an asterisk beside your name in the User access window for encounter restrictions and User access tab for chart restrictions. For more information, refer to Restricting access to specific encounter notes and Restricting access to patient charts.

Inbox notifications for forced access to restricted encounters

You can now stay informed about any forced access to restricted encounters.

If a user gains access to a restricted encounter, the owner of the restriction and the user who signed the encounter receive an automated inbox message. If the encounter is unsigned and associated with an appointment, the provider assigned to the appointment also receives a notification.

The notification includes the user who forced access, the date and time of the access, the reason for it, and a link to the restricted encounter.

Consistent synchronization of growth chart entries with vitals

To ensure consistency between a patient’s vitals and growth chart, we made additional updates:

  • When deleting a growth chart entry, a Delete permanently window appears where you are prompted to select a Reason for deletion before clicking Delete. This action is logged in the activity log.

  • When deleting or updating a growth chart entry, the change is now reflected in Patient Data > Vitals and the vitals table of saved or signed encounters. You can also see the history of those changes in the Recent Activity widget, as well as in Patient Data > Vitals when you click the history icon > Open activity log.

Outgoing referrals interface improvement

As part of our ongoing usability and design improvements, the New Referral - Outgoing window has clearer button descriptions, ensuring a more intuitive experience when creating and sending a referral.

In the New Referral - Outgoing window, the Save button is now Save & close, and the Send button is now Generate & send.

PDF creation interface improvement

As part of our ongoing usability and design improvements, when creating and sending a PDF, in the PDF Settings window, the Save button is now Generate PDF. And in the generated PDF window, the Fax and Email buttons at the top-right are now more prominent.

Fixes

Below is a list of bugs we have identified and fixed in this release. For more information, contact our TELUS Health support team.

  • In a patient’s chart, when adding your signature to a form, you have the option to delete the signature again.

  • In a patient’s chart, when applying patient data to a form with the data variable Date of Birth in Age format configured, the age now populates instead of the date of birth.

  • In the Patient Files section of a patient’s chart, from the Gallery view, you can archive a file again.

  • You no longer require the Patient settings permission to create, update and delete payment tags in Settings > Billing. Instead you require the Public Billing settings permission (previously named Billing settings).

  • From the inbox, when opening an unassigned document and clicking the magnifying glass to search for a patient, the non-functional Split document blue banner is no longer visible.

  • Alberta: You can now see the raw data of the transaction details of submitted provincial claims and WCB claims again.

  • Ontario: For clinics using Ocean eReferral, when you attach a file that was edited in the CHR to an Ocean eReferral, the Ocean portal launches without an error.

  • PEI: When adding a new patient to the CHR from the Client Registry, the patient’s identification is populated automatically.
