New patients can self-register via the appointment booking site, patient portal or CHR Connect if you allow them. When a new patient self-registers a patient chart is not automatically created. You must either confirm or archive the request or, if you already have a chart for the patient, you can merge them.
For more information on allowing Patient Registration, refer to TELUS CHR Connect Settings or Enabling and customizing the patient portal depending on which platform you are using.
If you are using the appointment booking site, new patients can book any appointment type that allows new patients. They must self-register.
๐ Note: If you are using the appointment booking site and have the appointment type set to Confirmation Required, the new patient's appointment appears in the Requested Appointments list. The Requested Appointments list does not show that the patient is unverified. When you open the patient chart from the appointment the Unverified Patient window opens instead.
๐ก Tip: If you are not sure which platform your clinic uses, refer to Overview of eBooking.
Steps
From the main menu, click Patients. When a patient self-registers, they appear in your patient list with a red Unverified label. You must then action the request.
๐ก Tip: You do not receive a notification when a new patient registers. By default, the patient list sorts by descending Registered Time, placing new patient requests at the top for easy visibility. For more information, refer to Filtering the patient list.
From the patient list, click the unverified patient. The Unverified Patient window opens.
๐ Note: If the system does not find a similar patient, there is no merge option.
Review the patient's details on the left-hand side and choose the appropriate option. Refer to the table below for reference.
Button | Description | Steps |
Confirm & Update | Add the new patient to the CHR. You can review the demographics the patient added during registration and update them if required. |
|
Merge | If the patient tries to register with your clinic but enters their information differently from what is in their chart, the system alerts you to possible duplicates. For example, the health card number matches one in the CHR but the patient name is spelled differently.
๐ Note: You see this option only when there is a possible duplicate chart. |
|
Archive | If you do not want to add the patient to your CHR, you can archive them.
For more information, refer to Viewing and restoring archived patient charts.
