The Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS) is a repository that connects hospitals, community laboratories, public health laboratories, and practitioners to facilitate the secure electronic exchange of laboratory test orders and results.

With the TELUS Health Collaborative Health Record (CHR), you can communicate with the OLIS system to retrieve laboratory results. You can:

  • Manually retrieve lab reports for a single patient

  • Preview and selectively process lab results
    📌 Note: When retrieving lab reports for a patient, they are displayed in a preview window and are not automatically imported into the CHR. You have to manually choose which lab results you would like to save to the patient chart. Only once a report is saved to the patient chart, will it appear in the provider's inbox. Even if you have OLIS configured on your system, maintain your direct feeds from the commercial laboratories because the OLIS system does not yet include all commercial laboratories and hospital systems.

❓ Who has access to OLIS?

OLIS is available to clinicians using the TELUS Collaborative Health Record (CHR). Clinics can apply for OLIS as an organization or as a solo provider. To initiate the OLIS deployment into your CHR account, contact our CHR Support Team at

❓ How long does this process usually take?

The process can take anywhere from weeks to months, depending on how long OntarioMD and Ontario Health require to process the documentation and approve the connection.

❓ What type of information can be found in OLIS?

OLIS provides lab data only. Currently, there are several hospitals and, public health and community labs feeding data into OLIS. Together, these organizations represent over 60 percent of the total lab test volume for the province of Ontario and more than 90 percent of the community lab volume.

What type of information can not be found in OLIS?

  • Tests that were referred to sites not yet connected to OLIS.

  • Results that were initially rejected due to formatting or information errors that have not been resubmitted by labs.

❓ I am also connected to Excelleris and Dynacare. Should I only be connecting to one or the other?

OLIS system does not yet include all commercial laboratories and hospital systems and therefore will not replace your existing sources of lab results. OLIS will instead augment them with additional information that you may not have access to today.
