After you create a bill in the Collaborative Health Record (CHR), you submit it to H-Link by changing the bill's status from Draft to Ready To Submit.
💡 Tip: You can configure the default status to be Ready To Submit if your bills don't require a review before submission. This saves you from manually changing the status on each bill (see Changing your default billing status).
You can modify your bill before it gets submitted to AHCIP i.e. when the bill is in Draft and Ready To Submit status.
Each day at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., the CHR submits all bills with a status of Ready To Submit to H-Link, and the bills' status changes to Submitted. At this point, you can no longer modify the bills until you receive a response from the province.
Steps (to manually submit bills to AHCIP)
📌 Note: You can manually change the status of an insured bill from Visits, the Billing dashboard, encounters (saved or signed) and the Insured billing section of patient charts. If you have many bills to submit, we recommend you use the Billing dashboard.
1. From the main menu, click Billing.
2. To see all claims with the Draft status, filter the Billing dashboard by:
Status: Draft
Insurer: Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan
Applicable Service Date
Billing Practitioner
Location
A billing report appears.
3. Click on a bill description. The Edit Insured Payment window appears.
4. Click in the Status field and select Ready To Submit.
5. Click Save.
If the bill is missing information, the bill is saved, but can't be submitted. The status of the claim changes to Attention Required and the individual bill items have a status of Invalid. Fix the issue, and then change the bill's status back to Ready To Submit so the claim can be submitted. See Managing refused or invalid claims.
The bill's status remains Ready To Submit until 11 a.m. or 3:30 p.m. when the bill is sent to H-Link and the status changes to Submitted.
📌 Note: When a bill is saved with a status of Ready To Submit, an information icon appears at the top-right corner of each billing item, allowing you to see the transaction details. See Viewing transaction details of submitted provincial claims.
