Managing attachments in an encounter
Updated over a week ago

Attachments and forms that are added to an encounter appear in the Attachments section of the encounter (see Adding an attachment to an encounter and Adding forms to encounters).

Attachments in an encounter appear in the Patient Files section of their chart, even if the encounter has not been signed, unless they are archived. Any file that is added to a chart from an encounter can only be archived and restored from the encounter.

You can perform the following actions on an attachment in the encounter:

  • View the attachment.

Click the row. If the file type is supported (Microsoft Word, PDF, scanned image, etc.), a set of standard actions are available. See Viewing and managing inbox items for more information.

  • Replace the file, update its tags, etc.
Click the gear icon to open the file picker.

Another window opens. The tools available are described in Uploading patient files.

  • Archive the file.
    Click the Archive button.

This removes the file from the Patient Files section of the chart, but leaves it in the encounter with an [Archived] indicator.

  • Restore an archived file to the Patient Files section.
    Click the Restore button.

📌 Note: Files that you add as attachments to an encounter can only be archived from from the encounter, and not from the Patient Files section. See Archiving patient files for more information.
